Sometimes the proposal is dramatic and sometimes the proposal is simple and sweet. In the Wedding Edition series, I have to tell you how it all started. So here it is! Our proposal story.
What’s your proposal story?
On the night of our son, Potato’s 1st birthday we went to Manhattan to take photos at a pop-up art installation. We took several photos in different themed rooms. Which might I say turned out nice and as good as the professional photos. Potato enjoyed interacting with the rooms and taking photos too.
After the photos, my husband Pop suggested we get something to eat. I thought it was getting late and wasn’t sure if we should sit down at a restaurant. It was a Wednesday and we had work the next day. Pop suggested we go to a Thai restaurant he took me to for my 25th birthday. They have one of our favorite dishes, Thai red snapper.
I thought it was odd he suggested that restaurant specifically and so quickly. I didn’t even think we were that close to the restaurant. Pop told me our son turns 1 once. But I was focused on getting the baby in his car seat I didn’t think much of it after that.
The restaurant was quiet and it was a very slow night. There were only one or two other people at tables. Baby Hilt fell right to sleep as we sat down. While we ate we talked about how parenting a kid for a year happened so fast. We started reminiscing about everything we’ve been through that year. Like moving twice and us both getting new jobs. When our meal was over, Pop started to tell me how I was a great Mom. Started saying all these nice things about our relationship and us as parents.
Potato started to wake up as we were wrapping up. I tried to nudge Pop out of the booth so we could start to leave. As he got out of the booth and I went to grab his coat to pass to him. When I turned around he was on one knee with a box opened to a ring. I screamed a little and laughed because I didn’t see it coming at all. I always tell him how hard it is to surprise me, but he really did.
After saying yes and he placed the ring on my finger I started to cry in excitement. This was our proposal story.
